AGRICULTURE Companies in Italy: Full List
Approximately 794,322 real businesses classified under Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing in Italy, with officer, shareholder and beneficial ownership records sourced directly from official government registries.
Approximately 794,322 real businesses operate in the Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing sector across Italy. Agriculture looks like the simplest sector to verify — a farm, a name, a plot of land. It rarely is. Ownership here often runs through family trusts, cooperatives, and, in many jurisdictions, foreign-land-ownership restrictions that route control through a domestic holding entity instead of the operator you would expect. The sector spans crop and livestock farms, forestry and logging operators, and commercial fisheries and aquaculture producers feeding raw commodities into much longer supply chains. For due diligence, the real exposure is not the farm gate — it is the subsidy filings, land-registry disclosures, and supply-chain traceability rules sitting on top of it.
180 companies in this sector are indexed on Zavia so far, part of a continually growing dataset.
Italy's own official business register reports a comparable figure specifically for active, currently-trading businesses: approximately 668,553 (InfoCamere (Italian Chambers of Commerce register), ATECO 2025 classification, active businesses as of December 2025).
Beneficial-ownership and registration rules for Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing companies in Italy follow the same national framework as every other sector there.

Analysis
What this data actually tells you
Italian farms most often take one of two forms: a società semplice agricola — a non-commercial civil partnership built for family and intergenerational holdings, similar in spirit to France’s GAEC or Germany’s GbR — or, increasingly, a società agricola a responsabilità limitata (agricultural SRL), a proper limited-liability company that qualifies for a reduced 1% land-registration tax rate once its holder is registered as an imprenditore agricolo professionale (IAP) and unlocks EU Common Agricultural Policy funding. The società semplice doesn’t file the same public accounts a commercial company does, the same screening gap seen in France and Germany’s equivalent civil forms.
Foreign ownership itself is largely open: EU and EEA citizens buy Italian farmland on the same terms as Italians, with no separate approval process. Non-EU buyers face a reciprocity test instead — Italy will only recognise the purchase if an Italian could buy equivalent land in the buyer’s home country — a legal condition on the transaction rather than a land-registry restriction, and one that doesn’t show up as a flag in the company record itself.
What changed recently
Sector-specific developments that change how this data is used. Each carries a verification date so it can be refreshed on a schedule.
The EU deforestation rules apply from 30 December 2026
The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) requires operators placing cattle, wood, cocoa, coffee, palm oil or soya on the EU market to prove their supply chains are deforestation-free. After two postponements — originally due 30 December 2024, then pushed to 30 December 2025 — the Council of the EU adopted a further revision in December 2025 moving the application date for all operators to 30 December 2026, with an additional six-month allowance for micro and small operators to 30 June 2027. For Italy operators and exporters supplying the EU market, this is now the operative compliance deadline.

Who uses Italy agriculture, forestry and fishing ownership data
The three checks this sector's data is most often run for.
EUDR supply-chain due diligence
Proving an Italian wood, soy-feed or cattle supplier is who they claim to be, upstream of the first trader, before the December 2026 deadline. Many Italian farms operate as a società semplice agricola, a non-commercial civil partnership that files minimally.
Foreign-buyer reciprocity screening
EU and EEA citizens can buy Italian farmland without restriction, but non-EU buyers are subject to a reciprocity principle — land can only be acquired if the buyer’s home country would let an Italian do the same. Verifying a non-EU-linked purchase means checking that condition, not just the transaction.
Agri-lending and input credit
Many società semplice agricola entities don’t file public accounts the way a commercial company does, so lenders and input suppliers often assess exposure through IAP (professional farmer) registration and partner history instead.
