Armada Española
Armada Española (in Spanish law simply la Armada; in English, the Spanish Navy) is one of the three services of Spain’s Fuerzas Armadas and an organ of the Spanish state, not a company. Article 8.1 of the Constitución Española (BOE núm. 311, 29 December 1978) constitutes the Fuerzas Armadas from the Ejército de Tierra, la Armada and el Ejército del Aire, and charges them with guaranteeing Spain’s sovereignty and independence, defending its territorial integrity and the constitutional order. Article 8.2 reserves the bases of military organisation to an organic law.
That law is the Ley Orgánica 5/2005, de 17 de noviembre, de la Defensa Nacional (BOE núm. 276, 18 November 2005; in force 8 December 2005): article 10.1 treats the Fuerzas Armadas as a single entity formed of the three services, and article 9.2 integrates them into the Ministerio de Defensa. Real Decreto 205/2024, de 27 de febrero (BOE núm. 52, 28 February 2024) lists the Fuerzas Armadas first among that department’s four components. Real Decreto 521/2020, de 19 de mayo (BOE núm. 143, 21 May 2020), article 17, and Orden DEF/707/2020, de 27 de julio set the Armada’s organisation as Cuartel General, Fuerza and Apoyo a la Fuerza. Its remit is the Spanish state’s.
It has no entry in the Registro Mercantil, no registration number, no incorporation date and no legal form, and no register status of any kind. The “Active” badge above is a value supplied by a data vendor, not a finding of any Spanish register.

Shareholders
Shareholders of Armada Española
Armada Española has no shareholders, because it has no share capital and no legal form capable of carrying one. It is a service of Spain’s Fuerzas Armadas (Constitución Española, art. 8.1) integrated into the Ministerio de Defensa (Ley Orgánica 5/2005, de 17 de noviembre, art. 9.2). The ministerial departments and organs of the Administración General del Estado are not separate legal persons: Ley 40/2015, de 1 de octubre, de Régimen Jurídico del Sector Público (BOE, 2 October 2015), art. 3.4, provides that each Public Administration acts for the fulfilment of its ends with a single legal personality (personalidad jurídica única). There is no equity interest in the Armada for anyone to hold.
Nor is there a beneficial owner. No natural person holds, directly or indirectly, any capital, voting right or economic interest in the Armada, so no beneficial owner exists to be identified and no ownership threshold applies. The Registro Central de Titularidades Reales, created by Real Decreto 609/2023, de 11 de julio (BOE núm. 165, 12 July 2023; in force 19 September 2023), collects declarations from Spanish legal persons and from entities and structures without legal personality, filed by those entities’ own administrators; an organ of the state has no such capital structure to declare and no administrators in that sense. A nil result here is a statement about the kind of body this is, not about a filing that is late or withheld.
The Registro Mercantil cannot hold a shareholding record for it either. Under the Código de Comercio (Real Decreto de 22 de agosto de 1885), art. 16.1, the register’s object is the inscription of individual traders, commercial companies, credit and insurance undertakings and mutual guarantee societies, collective investment institutions and pension funds, economic interest groupings, professional civil societies, and other natural or legal persons where a law so requires. A service of the armed forces falls into none of those classes. The Registro Mercantil Central describes its own function as issuing company names for the incorporation of companies and commercial entities, and centralising data received from the territorial Registros Mercantiles.
Data availability
Full. The label is used here in the sense that the ownership position is completely established from published law, and not in the sense that a shareholder list was obtained: there is nothing to list. “Not public”, “Restricted”, “Not found” and “Partial” would each imply that shareholder or beneficial-ownership data exists and is withheld, missing or incomplete. It does not exist. Readers should treat the absence of shareholders and of a beneficial owner on this page as a determinate legal fact about an organ of the Spanish state, not as a data gap.

Method note: this check establishes the position from the registers’ published scope rather than from a keyed index search. No name-keyed query of the Registro Mercantil index was run for “Armada Española”, because an organ of the state is outside the classes the register inscribes, so a nil result would carry no additional information.
Officers
Directors and officers of Armada Española
Armada Española has no directors and no officers in the company-law sense, because it is not a company. It has no board, no company secretary and no registered representatives, and there is no directors’ register anywhere that relates to it. What exists instead is a set of public offices created by statute and by royal decree.
This page names no individuals. No serving or former member of the Fuerzas Armadas is identified here, and no date of birth, nationality, residence or correspondence address is published. The offices below are described as offices. Military rank is not a corporate directorship, and no holder of any of these offices is or should be described as a director of an entity.
- Ministro / Ministra de Defensa (Minister of Defence) — the political head of the department. Under Ley Orgánica 5/2005, art. 7.1, the Minister develops and executes defence policy under the Government’s direction.
- Jefe de Estado Mayor de la Armada, styled Almirante Jefe de Estado Mayor de la Armada (AJEMA; Chief of the Naval Staff) — under Ley Orgánica 5/2005, art. 13.2, the Chiefs of Staff of the Ejército de Tierra, the Armada and the Ejército del Aire exercise command of their respective service under the authority of the Minister of Defence. Real Decreto 521/2020, de 19 de mayo, art. 5, repeats that command function; Real Decreto 205/2024, de 27 de febrero, art. 2.5, gives the office the administrative rank of subsecretario. Orden DEF/707/2020, de 27 de julio, places the Estado Mayor de la Armada within the Cuartel General as the principal auxiliary command organ supporting the office.
- Jefe de Estado Mayor de la Defensa (Chief of the Defence Staff) — a joint office outside the Armada’s own chain, named here only because Ley Orgánica 5/2005 assigns it the operational employment of the Fuerzas Armadas, which the service chiefs do not hold.
Recent officer changes
None are reported here as officer changes, because the concept does not apply. Appointment to and removal from the office of Jefe de Estado Mayor de la Armada is effected by royal decree agreed in the Consejo de Ministros on the proposal of the Minister of Defence (Ley 39/2007, de 19 de noviembre, de la carrera militar, art. 13.1), and each such royal decree is published in the Boletín Oficial del Estado under section II, “Autoridades y personal”. That is a public-office appointment, not an officer filing against a legal entity, and this page does not reproduce the identities it carries.
Data availability
Full. As with ownership, the label records that the position is completely established from published law, not that an officer list was obtained. The statutory offices, the instruments that create them, the authority under which each is exercised and the instrument by which each is filled are all published and cited above. There is no officer register because there are no officers. The identities of current holders are published in the Boletín Oficial del Estado and, in organisational-chart form, under the active-publicity duties of Ley 19/2013, de 9 de diciembre, de transparencia, acceso a la información pública y buen gobierno (BOE núm. 295, 10 December 2013), arts. 2.1(a), 6 and 10, through the central Portal de la Transparencia; they are deliberately omitted from this page because no know-your-business purpose is served by naming serving military personnel. “Not public” and “Restricted” would be wrong, since nothing is being withheld from the reader by any register; “Not found” would be wrong, since nothing was sought and failed.

Group Structure
Group structure of Armada Española
Armada Española has no group structure, no parent company, no subsidiaries and no branches, and it is itself neither a subsidiary nor a branch in company-law terms. Its position is administrative, not corporate, and no table of corporate relationships is given below because none exists to verify.
The administrative position is this. The Armada is one of the three services that make up the Fuerzas Armadas (Constitución Española, art. 8.1; Ley Orgánica 5/2005, de 17 de noviembre, art. 10.1, which treats the Fuerzas Armadas as a single entity integrating the specific forms of action of each of its components). The Fuerzas Armadas are integrated into the Ministerio de Defensa (Ley Orgánica 5/2005, art. 9.2), and Real Decreto 205/2024, de 27 de febrero, art. 1.3, structures that department into the Fuerzas Armadas, the Secretaría de Estado de Defensa, the Subsecretaría de Defensa and the Secretaría General de Política de Defensa. The Ministerio de Defensa is a ministerial department of the Administración General del Estado, which under Ley 40/2015, de 1 de octubre, art. 3.4, acts with a single legal personality. The legal person here is therefore the Administración General del Estado; the Armada is an organ within it, not an entity under it.
On identifiers: there is no company registration number, and no entity-level identifier that a counterparty could treat as the Armada’s equivalent of one. Spanish tax identification numbers beginning with the letter S are assigned to órganos de la Administración del Estado y de las Comunidades Autónomas (Agencia Tributaria, NIF composition guidance for legal persons and entities). Individual organs and paying units of the Ministerio de Defensa hold their own such numbers for budget execution and electronic invoicing: a convenio of the Ministerio de Defensa published by Resolución 420/38258/2024, de 20 de junio (BOE núm. 169, 13 July 2024), prints among its órgano gestor details “Sección de Gestión Económica y Tesorería-DAE Armada. NIF S2815001I” alongside “Área de Servicios Económicos de la Subdirección General de Servicios Económicos y Pagadurías. NIF S2800506D”. Those identify budget-execution units inside a single legal person; they are not entity identifiers and must not be used as a company number. This check did not establish from a primary source any single NIF standing for the Ministerio de Defensa as a whole, and none exists for “Armada Española” as an entity.
On accounts and funding: the Armada files no commercial accounts and has none to file. The Cuenta de la Administración General del Estado is formed each year by the Intervención General de la Administración del Estado and sent to the Tribunal de Cuentas before 31 July of the following year, covering the patrimony, financial situation, economic result and budget execution of the Administración General del Estado as a whole (Orden EHA/3067/2011, de 8 de noviembre, Instrucción de contabilidad para la Administración General del Estado, reglas 39 to 41; Ley 47/2003, de 26 de noviembre, General Presupuestaria, arts. 130 and 131, and art. 136.2 on publication in the Registro de cuentas anuales del sector público). It consolidates the department; there is no separate account for the Armada. Funding is appropriated to Sección 14, Ministerio de Defensa, in the state budget — last approved as Ley 31/2022, de 23 de diciembre, de Presupuestos Generales del Estado para el año 2023. A state appropriation is not the revenue or turnover of a legal entity and should not be read as one.
Recent structural changes
Dated changes to the governing instruments, not to any corporate structure: Real Decreto 521/2020, de 19 de mayo, in force 22 May 2020, reset the basic organisation of the Fuerzas Armadas; Orden DEF/707/2020, de 27 de julio, in force 29 July 2020, developed the basic organisation of the Armada; Real Decreto 205/2024, de 27 de febrero, in force 29 February 2024, redeveloped the basic organic structure of the Ministerio de Defensa and was itself later amended, including by Real Decreto 896/2024, de 10 de septiembre.
Data availability
Full. The position is completely established from published law: the Armada’s place in the Fuerzas Armadas, the integration of the Fuerzas Armadas into the Ministerio de Defensa, and the single legal personality of the Administración General del Estado are each set out in cited instruments. No linkage data is missing, restricted or merely unfound — corporate linkage is not a property this body can have. The Spanish public-sector transparency regime publishes its organisation chart, staffing table, contracts, convenios and grants through the central Portal de la Transparencia under Ley 19/2013, and its accounts through the Intervención General de la Administración del Estado; what no public source publishes, because no such thing exists, is a share register, a beneficial-ownership declaration, commercial annual accounts or a Registro Mercantil certificate.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does Armada Española do?
Armada Española is the Spanish Navy: one of the three services of Spain's Fuerzas Armadas, alongside the Ejército de Tierra and the Ejército del Aire, and an organ of the Spanish state rather than a company. Article 8.1 of the Constitución Española charges the Fuerzas Armadas with guaranteeing Spain's sovereignty and independence, defending its territorial integrity and the constitutional order. Ley Orgánica 5/2005, de 17 de noviembre, de la Defensa Nacional, article 9.2, integrates the Fuerzas Armadas into the Ministerio de Defensa, and its article 13.2 places each service under the command of its Chief of Staff acting under the authority of the Minister of Defence. It carries on no commercial activity and is not a trading entity in any jurisdiction.
Who owns Armada Española?
None. Armada Española has no shareholders and no share capital. It is a service of Spain's Fuerzas Armadas integrated into the Ministerio de Defensa (Ley Orgánica 5/2005, article 9.2), and organs of the Administración General del Estado are not separate legal persons: article 3.4 of Ley 40/2015 provides that each Public Administration acts with a single legal personality. There is no equity interest for anyone to hold, so the absence of shareholders here is a legal fact about the kind of body this is, not a missing, late or withheld filing.
Who is Armada Española's UBO (Ultimate Beneficial Owner)?
There is no ultimate beneficial owner. No natural person holds, directly or indirectly, any capital, voting right or economic interest in Armada Española, because it is an organ of the Spanish state with no share capital. No ownership threshold such as 25 per cent applies. The Registro Central de Titularidades Reales, created by Real Decreto 609/2023, de 11 de julio, collects beneficial-ownership declarations from Spanish legal persons and from entities and structures without legal personality, filed by their own administrators; a service of the armed forces has no such capital structure to declare. The correct answer is that no beneficial owner exists, not that beneficial-ownership data is unavailable.
Is Armada Española still an active company?
Armada Española's status on Company Data Enrichment is listed as active.
What is Armada Española's registered address?
The registered address on file for Armada Española is Spain.
What is Armada Española's revenue?
Armada Española has no revenue, because it is not an entity that trades. It is funded by appropriations in the state budget under Sección 14, Ministerio de Defensa — the budget section of the Presupuestos Generales del Estado, last approved as Ley 31/2022, de 23 de diciembre, de Presupuestos Generales del Estado para el año 2023. A budget appropriation to a ministerial section is a state spending authorisation, not the turnover or revenue of a legal entity, and it should not be read or compared as company financials. State accounts are consolidated at the level of the Administración General del Estado by the Intervención General de la Administración del Estado; there is no separate set of accounts for the Armada.
Is Armada Española listed on a stock exchange?
No, and it cannot be. Armada Española has no share capital and no securities of any kind, so there is nothing capable of being admitted to trading on any stock exchange. It is a service of Spain's armed forces within the Ministerio de Defensa, and the ministerial departments and organs of the Administración General del Estado are not separate legal persons: article 3.4 of Ley 40/2015, de 1 de octubre, de Régimen Jurídico del Sector Público, provides that each Public Administration acts with a single legal personality.
Who are the officers/directors of Armada Española?
Armada Española has no directors or company officers, because it is not a company: there is no board, no company secretary and no directors' register anywhere relating to it. The relevant posts are public offices. The Ministro de Defensa (Minister of Defence) develops and executes defence policy under the Government's direction (Ley Orgánica 5/2005, article 7.1). The Jefe de Estado Mayor de la Armada, styled Almirante Jefe de Estado Mayor de la Armada or AJEMA (Chief of the Naval Staff), exercises command of the Armada under the authority of the Minister of Defence (Ley Orgánica 5/2005, article 13.2; Real Decreto 521/2020, article 5) and holds the administrative rank of subsecretario (Real Decreto 205/2024, article 2.5). Appointments to that office are made by royal decree agreed in the Consejo de Ministros on the proposal of the Minister of Defence (Ley 39/2007, article 13.1) and published in the Boletín Oficial del Estado. This page names no serving or former military personnel: no know-your-business purpose is served by naming them, and a military officer is not a director.
Does Armada Española have a parent company or subsidiaries?
No. Armada Española has no parent company, no subsidiaries and no branches, and it is neither a subsidiary nor a branch in company-law terms. Its position is administrative, not corporate: it is one of the three services of the Fuerzas Armadas (Constitución Española, article 8.1; Ley Orgánica 5/2005, article 10.1), the Fuerzas Armadas are integrated into the Ministerio de Defensa (article 9.2 of the same law; Real Decreto 205/2024, article 1.3), and the Ministerio de Defensa is a ministerial department of the Administración General del Estado, which acts with a single legal personality under article 3.4 of Ley 40/2015. The legal person is the Administración General del Estado; the Armada is an organ within it, not an entity owned by it.
Can Zavia monitor changes to Armada Española's ownership over time?
This profile reflects a point-in-time snapshot from Company Data Enrichment. Zavia's monitoring API can track changes to Armada Española's registered shareholders, officers, and group structure going forward, flagging updates as they're filed rather than requiring a manual recheck.
Can I access Armada Española's data through an API?
Yes. Zavia's API connects directly to official government ownership registries across 195 countries and territories, including Spain, so records like Armada Española's registration, shareholder, UBO, and group-structure data can be queried programmatically instead of viewed one page at a time.
Where does this company information come from, and how current is it?
This record is sourced directly from Company Data Enrichment and was last synced on 1 October 2026.
