France Company & Owner Directory
Company register search for 37.9M+ France companies, plus shareholder, officer and beneficial ownership records sourced directly from official government registries.
France company register data lives in the Registre du Commerce et des Sociétés (RCS, Trade and Companies Register), linked to the Registre des Bénéficiaires Effectifs (RBE, Register of Beneficial Owners), managed by INPI on data.inpi.fr under Ordinance No. 2016-1635. France closed public access on 31 July 2024 after the CJEU ruling, now granting free access to authorities, AML-obliged entities, and approved legitimate-interest applicants, at a 25% capital-or-voting-rights threshold. Listed EU/EEA parent companies, unregistered foundations, and endowment funds are exempt from filing. RCS and RBE data verify the declared UBO's identity, nationality, and percentage of control directly; the register shows the end-point UBO but not the ownership chain leading to them, so intermediate corporate structures still require resolution outside the RBE.

Analysis
What this data actually tells you about France
France is one of the few large EU jurisdictions where the ownership picture got harder to see rather than easier. The RBE was built as a public register, then closed to open search in July 2024; what survived is a filing obligation with real teeth — companies that fail to keep UBO declarations current have faced automatic RCS deregistration since June 2025.
The practical effect for a compliance analyst is a register that is unusually well maintained and unusually hard to reach. It also means the declared UBO on file is a genuine data point rather than a formality, which is not true everywhere in Europe. The structural complication is the SCI — the société civile immobilière — a lightly regulated holding vehicle used at enormous scale for property, family wealth and, occasionally, for putting distance between an operating company and the person behind it. Real estate activities are the single largest sector on the French register by entity count. Any France screening that stops at the operating company will miss most of that layer.

Company size, by disclosed headcount
By number of employees on file. Entities with no disclosed headcount are not counted in any band.
Enterprises by size category
INSEE's official size categories (based on headcount, turnover and balance-sheet total together, not headcount alone), for the 5.2M non-agricultural, non-financial market enterprises in France. Source: INSEE Focus n°372, Dec 2025.
Part of a group vs. standalone
Among French SMEs excluding microenterprises: 44% belong to a French-only group, 8% to a multinational group, 48% are independent. Microenterprises, the large majority of the register, are almost all independent and are not included in this split. Source: INSEE Focus n°372, Dec 2025.
Foreign-controlled entities
19,100 foreign-controlled enterprises operate in France’s mainly market sectors — 1% of enterprises there, but 13% of employment (2.3M people). About half of that employment traces back to a parent in another EU country.
Regional distribution is not shown: Zavia does not yet have a sourced, current breakdown of the French business register by region precise enough to chart, so the module is omitted rather than estimated.
Who uses France ownership data
The three checks this page's data is most often run for.
KYB onboarding
Verifying a France counterparty means confirming the beneficial owner behind the entity and evidencing where that answer came from, not just pulling the registered name.
AML and sanctions screening
Sanctions exposure often sits above the operating company, in a holding layer registered elsewhere. Screening the local entity alone will not surface it; screening the resolved ownership chain will.
Supplier and credit risk
Only 744,559 France entities have digitized accounts on file, so group membership is often a better solvency signal than a standalone balance sheet.
