Germany Company, Owner & Shareholder Directory

Company register search for 4.6M+ Germany companies, plus shareholder, officer and beneficial ownership records sourced directly from official government registries.

Register & Ownership Overview

Germany company register data lives in the Handelsregister (Commercial Register), covering directors, shareholders, and capital, linked to the Transparenzregister (Transparency Register) under §3 of the Geldwäschegesetz. Access has been restricted since the November 2022 CJEU ruling, limited to German obliged entities, law enforcement, and demonstrated legitimate interest, at a threshold of more than 25% of capital or voting rights. Listed companies meeting equivalent EU transparency standards are exempt, and where no natural person clears the threshold, managing directors are registered as presumed UBOs instead. Transparenzregister data verifies the declared UBO's name, birth date, and nationality directly; it doesn't show how ownership flows from the company to that person, so intermediate holding companies or SPVs still require the Handelsregister's shareholder list or external resolution.

Analysis

What this data actually tells you about Germany

Germany closed its Transparenzregister to public search in November 2022 — the first major EU jurisdiction to react to the CJEU ruling that later forced France, Italy and others to follow the same path. What remains is a three-tier gate: authorities and law enforcement have had unrestricted access since January 2021, obliged entities such as banks and notaries query it for due diligence, and everyone else must register individually and justify a legitimate interest for each company — foreign obliged entities face extra friction, since demonstrating regulated status abroad doesn’t automatically qualify. Germany also missed the EU’s 10 July 2025 deadline to transpose the newest access rules under the Sixth Anti-Money Laundering Directive, and the European Commission opened infringement proceedings against it, alongside ten other member states, in September 2025.

For a compliance analyst, that means the German register is thorough but slow to query at scale, and the access rules themselves are currently a placeholder for a bigger EU-wide reset: from 10 July 2027, the EU’s new Anti-Money Laundering Regulation applies directly, the UBO threshold shifts from “more than 25%” to “25% or more” — pulling in people who sat exactly at the old line — and national registers are due to interconnect through a European Central Platform. Screening a German counterparty today means working within rules built to be superseded in under two years.

Who uses Germany ownership data

The three checks this page's data is most often run for.

🧾

KYB onboarding

Verifying a Germany counterparty means confirming the beneficial owner behind the entity and evidencing where that answer came from, not just pulling the registered name.

🛡️

AML and sanctions screening

Sanctions exposure often sits above the operating company, in a holding layer registered elsewhere. Screening the local entity alone will not surface it; screening the resolved ownership chain will.

📈

Supplier and credit risk

Only 516,512 Germany entities have digitized accounts on file, so group membership is often a better solvency signal than a standalone balance sheet.
