Marshall Islands Company & Beneficial Ownership Directory

Company register search for 1 Marshall Islands companies, plus shareholder, officer and beneficial ownership records sourced directly from official government registries.

Register & Ownership Overview

Marshall Islands company register data is searchable free of charge through International Registries Inc. at register.iri.com, under the Business Corporations Act as amended in 2019, which also abolished bearer shares — but the free search returns only entity name, number, and status, not shareholder or director detail, which is held privately by each company's registered agent. Beneficial-owner information is filed confidentially with the registered agent and disclosed only to competent authorities or under international information-exchange requests, with no specific ownership threshold published in verifiable form.

Analysis

What this data actually tells you about Marshall Islands

The Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) has one of the smallest economies in the world. Nominal GDP was approximately $0.28 billion in 2024, and GDP per capita stood at $7,467 in 2024 (World Bank). The economy is not diversified: it depends heavily on three external revenue streams rather than domestic production. First, US Compact of Free Association funding, which after the 2023 amendment provides roughly $2.3 billion across FY2024-FY2043 and in FY2026 accounted for about $373.3 million of the RMI government’s record $769.3 million national budget — close to half of total public spending. Second, revenue from licensing foreign fishing vessels to catch tuna in RMI waters, a major and growing line of government income. Third, registration fees from the Marshall Islands ship and corporate registry, one of the largest in the world by tonnage, administered on the government’s behalf by International Registries, Inc. (IRI). The currency is the US dollar, RMI’s official legal tender, so RMI does not set its own monetary policy. The Asian Development Bank’s September 2025 Asian Development Outlook revised RMI growth upward to 3.0% for FY2025 and 3.5% for FY2026, citing Compact-funded capital investment plus a pickup in fisheries and construction activity. Counterparties verify a specific counterparty’s actual current dependence on Compact, fisheries-licensing or registry-fee revenue directly.

The single most important recent economic development for RMI is the amended Compact of Free Association with the United States, signed October 16, 2023, and enacted into US law when President Biden signed the Compact of Free Association Amendments Act on March 9, 2024. It locks in roughly $2.3 billion in US grant and trust-fund assistance through FY2043, plus a separate $700 million trust fund tied partly to nuclear-legacy and Enewetak Atoll development. Fisheries licensing is RMI’s other major external-revenue engine: as a member of the eight-nation Parties to the Nauru Agreement (PNA), which collectively controls an estimated 25-30% of global tuna supply, RMI’s own Vessel Day Scheme (VDS) revenue rose from about $3 million in 2010 to about $35 million in 2020. The Marshall Islands ship registry, run by IRI, is one of the largest flag registries in the world — UNCTAD recorded 305.5 million deadweight tons flagged to RMI as of January 1, 2025 (third-largest globally), while IRI’s own figures put the RMI-flagged fleet at over 223 million dwt and more than 5,600 vessels, including the world’s largest flagged tanker fleet. Foreign direct investment is very small in absolute terms: FDI stock is around $170 million, concentrated in fisheries and a handful of tourism ventures. RMI is a member of the 18-nation Pacific Islands Forum and one of the few Pacific states maintaining formal diplomatic relations with Taiwan. Counterparties verify a specific counterparty’s current Compact-funding, fisheries-licensing or registry-related exposure directly.

RMI’s population is very small and shrinking. The 2021 national census recorded 42,418 residents, down 20% from 53,158 in 2011; a 2024 estimate puts the population at roughly 37,548. The UN World Population Prospects 2024 projects continued decline to about 31,000 by 2030 and 25,000 by 2050. The dominant demographic story is outmigration: under Compact free-movement provisions, Marshallese citizens can live and work in the US without a visa, and roughly one-third of the RMI-born population now lives in the US, concentrated in Hawaii, Guam, and notably Springdale, Arkansas (home to an estimated 4,300 Marshallese, the largest concentration outside RMI itself). The RMI government does not publish official unemployment statistics, though the government itself is the largest employer, accounting for about 30.6% of the workforce. Two dated, well-documented developments define RMI’s policy environment. First, sea-level rise: the ocean around RMI has risen more than 12 centimeters since 1993, already causing regular flooding of low-lying neighborhoods, roads, and cemeteries; RMI unveiled a National Adaptation Plan at COP28 in December 2023. Second, the US nuclear-testing legacy: the US conducted 67 nuclear tests at Bikini and Enewetak Atolls between 1946 and 1958; a Nuclear Claims Tribunal awarded RMI more than $2 billion in damages, of which only about $150 million was ever paid, and the 2023 Compact-related MOU allocated $700 million to a repurposed trust fund. In 2024, the UN Human Rights Council adopted resolution 57/26, mandating OHCHR technical assistance on the human-rights implications of the nuclear testing program. Counterparties verify a specific counterparty’s actual current climate-vulnerability and nuclear-legacy-linked exposure directly rather than assume these are resolved historical issues.

Who uses Marshall Islands ownership data

The three checks this page's data is most often run for.

🧾

KYB onboarding

Verifying a Marshall Islands counterparty means confirming the beneficial owner behind the entity and evidencing where that answer came from, not just pulling the registered name.

🛡️

AML and sanctions screening

Sanctions exposure often sits above the operating company, in a holding layer registered elsewhere. Screening the local entity alone will not surface it; screening the resolved ownership chain will.

📈

Supplier and credit risk

Filed accounts cover a limited share of the register in most jurisdictions, so group membership is often a better solvency signal than a standalone balance sheet.
